COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is
justifying his use of state aircraft for personal trips and taking
business- and first-class flights on the taxpayer dime.
Sanford told reporters Tuesday that previous governors have used
state planes similarly. He was unapologetic when asked about pricey
commercial flights.
State law requires state planes are used for official business.
State workers are supposed to use lowest-cost travel.
Sanford's remarks came after two The Associated Press
investigations into his travel.
Sanford has been under increased scrutiny since admitting in
June to an affair. He's vowed to stay in office.
Meanwhile, one state lawmaker probing the commercial flights
says the governor broke the law, which Sanford's office denies.
