Thirty short minutes have never made such a big difference in Ashley Ball's life. "30 minutes. That was it," she says. "If we hadn't gone to the store, we would have been home." The young mother and two year old daughter, Kylee, took a quick trip away from home Wednesday evening, and came back to a mess. "I drove up and saw the cars everywhere and thought oh maybe there's a car crash in front of the house," Ball says. There was a car crash, alright. This time, the car hit Ball's home! Witnesses say the driver lost control and slammed into the side of the home, leaving splinters where Ball's toddler sleeps. The impact actually pushed the 2 year old's bed across the room, where it laid in broken pieces on the floor. "She would have been there or quite close to it, playing with her toys. She could have gotten really hurt!"
Now, Ball has to explain to her daughter how it happened, and where they'll go next. "Right now, I'm just trying to piece things together, find a place to go right now." Still, she says she has reasons to be thankful. "The home is destroyed but nobody's hurt." She left home for 30 minutes, and still returned with her most prized possession. "You know what," she says. "She needed a reason to upgrade to a big bed!"
EMS workers say the driver of the truck had a medical emergency that caused him to crash. He was transported to Spartanburg Regional, but is expected to be ok.
