A collapsed transformer platform behind the Sonoco Plant in Union is the blame for a brief fire behind the plant Friday afternoon. The call came out about 2:45pm. According to Steve Ramsey with WBCU Radio, a platform holding 6 transformers collapsed, causing all six transformers to burn. When firefighters arrived, one of the transformers was on fire. It soon exploded, causing 2 other transformers to explode. The platform then collapsed. The transformers contained mineral oil, which helped them burn. There was no damage to the building, and no injuries.
