The mother of South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster has died at the age of 88, according to McMaster's Communications Director, Rob Godfrey.

In a prepared release, Godfrey said that Ida Dargan McMaster died in her sleep Saturday night at her home. Funeral services for McMaster will be held on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia at 4 pm.

"My mother was an extraordinary woman," McMaster said. "She taught us six boys about love and life, and I will miss her greatly."

Long considered to be one of the leading candidates in the 2010 South Carolina gubernatorial race, McMaster had planned to make an announcement this week regarding his plans to run for the office. However, due to his mother's death, McMaster says that all campaign plans for this week have been postponed.

"I have decided to postpone all political events scheduled for this week," McMaster said in the release. "At this time, all my father's children, grandchildren, in-laws and extended family want to be together to remember the remarkable life of a great lady. I speak for my father and the entire McMaster family in thanking all our friends who are thinking about us and have us in their plans."
