Columbia, S.C. - August 18, 2009 Attorney General Henry McMaster announced today that John Richard Sherrill, II, 24, of 111 Thornhill Court in Greenwood, was arrested on August 17, 2009, in an Internet Predator sting conducted by the City of Mauldin Police Department.

The Mauldin Police Department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Sherrill was arrested on two (2) counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor (§16-15-342), a felony offense punishable to ten (10) years imprisonment on each count.

Arrest warrants allege that Sherrill solicited sex on the Internet from an individual he believed to be a thirteen (13) year old girl. In reality, he was soliciting sex from an undercover Mauldin Police officer.

Sherrill was assigned a $30,000 bond. A booking photo is available through the Greenville County Detention Center.

A search warrant executed on Sherrill's residence resulted in the seizure of a desktop and a laptop computer. The City of Abbeville Police Department (also a Task Force member) and the City of Greenwood Police Department also assisted in the case.

This is the one hundred sixty-eighth (168th) arrest for the Task Force.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.
