One person is dead and three others were hospitalized after a three car collision in southern Greenville County Monday afternoon.
The accident happened at 2:05 pm at the intersection of Highway 418 and Old Hunred Road near Pelzer. According to Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the unidentified driver of a 2001 Lincoln four-door sedan was traveling south on Old Hundred Road when he disregarded a stop sign and was struck on both sides of the car by an 18-wheeler and a 1994 GMC SUV.
The driver of the sedan was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he later died. A passenger in the car, 67-year old Janie Brownlee, of Williamston, had to be airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 51-year old Ivan Kelly, of Hopkins, South Carolina, was wearing a seatbelt and transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital, while the driver of the SUV, 36-year old Gregory Burton, was wearing a seatbelt and transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
The Greenville County Coroner's office identifies the driver of the Lincoln as Zachariah Jesse Peace. The 77 year old was wearing seatbelt. Peace died at Greenville Memorial Monday afternoon of blunt force trauma injury to the chest.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says no charges will be filed in this case.
