The Asheville Firefighter who is accused of shooting at a bicyclist no longer works for the Asheville Fire Department.

The Department tells us Charles Alexander Diez was "separated from employment" on August 10th.

Police say Diez fired a handgun at cyclist Alan Ray Simons on Tunnel Road last month, striking his helmet.

Diez is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Investigators said Simons was riding bikes with his wife and 3-year-old son along Tunnel Road in Asheville, when Diez stopped and began arguing with him about the safety of biking on a busy road.

That's when police say Diez pulled out a handgun and shot at Simons.
