Greenville County Sheriff's deputies are asking you to allow extra time into your normal driving routine to accommodate for the increased traffic congestion that comes during the school year.
If you don't obey the yellow flashing lights, you’ll see blue lights. That’s what law-breaking drivers found out during pick-up outside Brushy Creek Elementary following the first day back-to-school Wednesday.
The County issued 22 citations Wednesday. Deputies say most of the tickets they handing out are for speeding, but they are issuing tickets for seatbelts violations and failing to properly restrain your child. Master Deputy Andrew Wamsley told News Channel 7, “I stopped a man and a lady for a seatbelt violation, and upon walking up to the vehicle, they had a three year old child laying next to his child restraint seat, asleep."
Speeding up to ten miles per hour over the speed limit in a school zone can cost you two points on your record and cost you $80. The faster you are going, the steeper it gets. According to Wamsley, for 11 mph to 24 mph over the limit, it's a four point moving violation; 14 mph – 24 mph is a $185 fine and 25 mph and over, it's a six point moving violation and $440 fine.
