SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Philandering South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is on the road asking for forgiveness and support as questions remain about his travel spending.
Sanford apologized at a packed Rotary club lunch in Summerville on Wednesday for his affair with an Argentine woman and said it was a self-inflicted wound that's ended his political ambitions.
Still, he asked for help in his final term, during which he wants to get future governors more power and control spending.
State officials have asked for an ethics probe of Sanford's use of state aircraft after an Associated Press investigation revealed he used planes for personal and partisan political trips. The governor said Wednesday he has not decided whether to allow an ethics investigation to be open to the public.
Governor Sanford's schedule calls for him to be in Greenville Thursday speaking to the Pleasantburg Rotary.
