A local junior high school principal has been killed in a traffic accident in North Carolina. Brian Russell Linder, assistant principal at Whitlock Junior High School, was killed in the accident on today. Mr. Linder began serving as the assistant principal at Whitlock Junior High School in July. Prior to coming to Whitlock he worked as an assistant principal in Spartanburg School District Six.
In a statement released by Spartanburg School District 7, Dr. Shawn Foster, principal at Whitlock Junior High School, who also served as Mr. Linder’s principal during their time in District Six, described Mr. Linder as someone who really cared about kids and put everything he had into ensuring the students were cared for. “When I came to Whitlock, my first request was whether I could bring Mr. Linder with me. Brian has such a presence about him, and everyone truly respects him – especially the students. Not only was he a tremendous colleague, he was a friend. To say he will be missed is an understatement.”
Spartanburg School District Seven Superintendent Thomas White said that even though Brian was new to the district as an assistant principal he was known throughout the District Seven community. Mr. Linder attended Whitlock Junior High School and graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1992. “We were excited to know that Brian was coming back to District Seven, because he was one of our own and we knew he had a bright future as an educational leader,” stated Dr. White.
The district will have mental health counselors, school counselors and other support staff available to talk with students, faculty, parents and staff members if needed. The district shared that it will offer all the support and help it can to the Linder family, our students, and faculty as we mourn the loss of Brian Linder.
