CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Two young children have died after a fire broke out at their mobile home near the South Carolina coast.
Multiple media outlets reported the fire started at a mobile home in North Charleston late Monday afternoon.
The names of the children had not been released early Tuesday.
A woman and another young child in the home escaped.
North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor says investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire. Pryor says two officers spotted the fire and firefighters arrived a few minutes later but the home was engulfed in flames.
One man who was cutting grass nearby tried breaking a window and yanked out a room air conditioner but couldn't get inside either window because of the heat and flames.
Pryor says one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
