A student swallowed an object and started choking during class; but a quick thinking teacher in Spartanburg District Six took charge and may have saved his life.
Anderson Mill Elementary School third grader, Chancellor, says he put a metal ring in his mouth and accidentally swallowed it. Teacher Sarah Stephanoff noticed he was gasping for air, got behind him, and used a thrusting technique to dislodge it.
Chancellor and his mom are thankful she was there, and knew what to do. Chancellor told News Channel 7, “It was amazing… what she did." His mom, Angie Webb says, "Words can't express how grateful I am." A humble Stephanoff says, “I just think I was doing my job.”
Miss Stephanoff is a second year teacher, and she says she knew what to do thanks to a class she took at Furman University while earning her degree.
