(Honea Path, South Carolina) The Honea Path Police Department has asked SLED to investigate, after video surfaced of a teen being beaten by an officer.
The beating was caught on dash cam video.
Honea Path Police Chief David King tells us when he saw the dash cam video, he fired Sgt. Eddie Webb and turned the case over to the solicitor and SLED to investigate for possible criminal charges.
Chief King says the teens were riding ATVs and would not pull over.
When they finally did, the video shows Webb hit one of the teens more than once.
The incident report says the officer "observed a four wheeler ATV traveling on South Shirley Ave. with 4 suspects on it and the four wheeler atv had no lights on it." The officer "caught up to four wheeler ATV on Sanders St. toward East Greer St. R/O began pursuit with blue lights and siren.
The ATV turned right onto Maryland Ave, crossed Laurel Ave, continued on Maryland Ave, turned right onto Carolina Ave, turned left on Virginia Ave, crossed Louisiana St, crossed Georgia St and stopped at the dead end of Virginia Ave.
The ATV disregarded four stop signs during this time and almost hit R/O as it turned onto Virginia Ave. causing R/O vehicle to to up on the curb.
When the ATV stopped at the dead end of Virginia Ave. the passenger got off. The driver continued to sit on the ATV with it still running and it facing sideways in a position to possibly pull back off. R/O exited his vehicle and pushed the driver off the ATV using his flashlight as a straight baton.
The passenger turned and ran away around the back of the residence. R/O struck the driver with the flashlight in the upper back area in a straight baton technique to gain compliance with suspect to place his hands behind his back. Suspect #1 was handcuffed to the rear while lying face down on the ground.
Suspect was searched and a Daisy Black .177 caliber 15 x Coz BB pistol was found in his right shorts pocket."
