CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - The head of the South Carolina Ethics Commission is confirming that an investigation of Gov. Mark Sanford's travel has been going on for 10 days.

The confirmation Friday evening comes after the Republican waived confidentiality and allowed the probe to become public.

Executive director Herb Hayden says the investigation is no longer confidential. He didn't immediately say how long it would take to complete.

Attorney General Henry McMaster asked the agency to look into the governor's travel records after an Associated Press investigation revealed Sanford used state planes for personal and political trips, which state law prohibits, and took pricey commercial flights.

Calls for Sanford's resignation and impeachment have grown since the questionable travel was revealed earlier this month.
