Cheney: CIA Investigation An "Outrageous Act"

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Vice President Dick Cheney is calling the Justice Department's decision to investigate CIA interrogators "an outrageous political act."

He tells "Fox News Sunday" people will be less willing to take on difficult jobs and make difficult decisions if they have to "worry about what the next administration is going to say." Attorney General Eric Holder is looking into allegations that CIA interrogators abused terror suspects.

An internal CIA inspector general's report found that some interrogators went beyond Bush administration rules that gave them wide latitude. Among the examples cited were interrogators threatening a detainee with a handgun and an electric drill.

Cheney says the use of severe techniques was "directly responsible for the fact that for eight years, we had no further mass casualty attacks against the United States." Cheney also said he was aware of a Bush administration order prohibiting the CIA from advising Congress about a program to kill
or capture top al-Qaida leaders. But he stopped short of confirming reports that he personally issued that order.
