Greenville Deputies say at approximately 4:00 pm, a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office accompanied a U.S. Postal Inspector to 134 Cashmere Drive.
They say the purpose of the visit was for the postal inspector to address some mail problems with a male resident and a deputy was requested to assist due to threats being made by the resident.
They say upon the sergeant’s arrival, he met with the postal inspector and they approached the resident who was standing on the porch.
The resident became agitated by their presence and began pulling a revolver from his pocket. The sergeant was able to draw his service weapon and at the same time grab the suspect’s gun, which was out of his pocket and being pointed in the sergeant’s direction.
Deputies say the suspect and sergeant began to fight for control of both guns and during the altercation the sergeant’s service weapon discharged four times.
They say this discharge is under investigation by our Office of Professional Standards and additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.
Nobody was injured nor was any property damaged as a result of the gunfire.
Deputies say the suspect has been taken into custody and charges will be forthcoming. Additional information concerning this investigation and copies of warrants on the suspect will be available at a later time.
