A memorial service was held Monday for a TL Hanna student killed in an Accident over the weekend.

15-year old Cassie Lee Hunter died and six others were been injured.

The accident happened at 7:18 am on Highway 178 at Breazeale Road. According to Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, seven people were traveling in a 1988 Chevy Camaro along Highway 178, about four miles west of Anderson, when the car, driven by 29-year old Matthew Shane Massey, of Anderson, went off the road, struck a culvert and ended up striking a pole.

McDougald says that three of the seven occupants were ejected. Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says that 15-year old Cassie Lee Hunter, of Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene and the remaining six occupants of the vehicle were transported to AnMed Hospital, one of whom is currently in surgery with life threatening injuries.

Also injured were 20-year old Christopher Sutton, 15-year old Kaitlyn Sutton, 14-year old William Dakota Melvin, 18-year old Ashley Lasley and 20-year old Joel Jackson, all of Anderson. Thus far, the extent of their injuries have yet to be determined, although Shore did say that Jackson was undergoing surgery at the hospital. All are reportedly students or former students at TL Hanna High School.

McDougald says the accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol MAIT investigative team. Shore says that alcohol appears to have played a role in the accident.
