Wade Hampton High School Principal Lance Radford has been named the South Carolina Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Radford is in his fifth year as principal at Wade Hampton High School. The school has ranked at the top of the school system in academic achievement and been recognized multiple times by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the nation.
“Everything that we do at Wade hampton High School really focuses on our kids and improving achievement at our school," said Raeford to News Channel 7. "Our teachers are committed to that. Our community is committed to that. Our parents are committed to that. And when you have that many people working together for a common cause and for a common goal, you can accomplish a lot.”
“Lance Radford is the epitome of the principal as an instructional leader who promotes academic excellence and enriches school life, implementing a number of successful initiatives that focus on student achievement and the importance of connections between educators and learners,” said District Superintendent Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher in a written statement.
The Greenville County School District says WHHS uses an approach that includes flexible scheduling. Block scheduling allows students to choose from a myriad of courses individualized to their specific career cluster, interests, and future aspirations. Students select from 13 Advanced Placement courses, 56 electives, credit recovery and online courses, career technology center courses, and Fine Arts Center courses.
Radford began his 20-year education career as a social studies teacher at Hillcrest High School in 1989 and later served as an assistant principal at that school from 2001 until 2005 when he was named principal at Wade Hampton High School.
Radford has received various honors including State Athletic Administrators AAA Principal of the Year and 2009 Greenville County Schools Principal of the Year.
