ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a thief broke into a South Carolina home, unwrapped and stole Christmas presents under the tree, then tried to burn it down.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports Thursday that Darcel Morris returned home last Friday to a smoke-filled apartment and crumpled wrapping paper strewn across her floor. The single Rock Hill mother said games, clothes and other gifts for her 7- and 2-year-old children were gone, along with her Xbox and DVD player.
Morris said she was gone only a few hours.
A York County Sheriff's Office report says someone had put a cloth on her stove and turned in on in an attempt to start a fire.
While investigating her break-in, officers discovered a neighbor's apartment was on fire. Someone had taken a TV, laptop and gaming systems there.
