Several flights to and from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Sunday have been cancelled or delayed due to the snowstorm that has swept across the mid-atlantic and northeast regions of the United States.
Three US Airways flights scheduled to depart from Greenville-Spartanburg International to Washington's Reagan National Airport, and two scheduled to depart to Philadelphia International Airport were either cancelled or delayed. A United Express flight scheduled to depart from GSP to Washington's Dulles Airport was cancelled, along with a Continental Airlines flight to Newark and a Delta flight to New York's Laguardia Airport.
Three arrival flights to GSP were cancelled, while six others have been delayed. Arriving flights from Philadelphia, Washington and Continental were cancelled
East Coast airports are trying to dig out from a major winter storm and hope to get holiday travelers moving again.
About 800 flights at the New York City area's three major airports remained canceled despite clear conditions on the runways.
Spokeswoman Tara Hamilton says one runway at Dulles International Airport in Washington was open by Sunday morning. She expected Reagan National to be open for business by midday.
Both airports anticipated a busy day with people catching their flights set for Sunday and those who were unable to fly Friday and Saturday.
Philadelphia International Airport was shut down Saturday night but began to reopen early Sunday. Spokesman Phyllis Van Istendal said operations would ramp up through the day.
At Boston Logan aiport, where it was still snowing, spokesman Phil Orlandella says flights have been "on and off." He says Monday looks to be a normal day.
