A woman was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler after her car broke down along a Highway in Laurens County Saturday night.
Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols tells News Channel 7 that 63-year old Brenda Tucker, of Clinton, was struck by the 18-wheeler after he car broke down on Highway 72, just a few miles west of Clinton. According to Nichols, Tucker and another woman were coming home from work at Aaron Industries when the car she was driving experienced problems, possibly with an alternator, and broke down on the side of the highway, near Charlottes Road.
Nichols says that the 18-wheeler attempted to swerve and miss the car, but it struck the rear end of the car and then Tucker, who had got out of the car. The passenger in the car was not injured.
13 year old Andrea Smith says she already misses her grandmother. "Everything her strong personality just her being a grandma," Smith said.
Neighbors tell News Channel 7 that Tucker was helping to raise to of her grandsons.
Tucker died of multiple blunt force body trauma.
Several calls to the South Carolina Highway Patrol seeking further information regarding the accident have yet to be returned.
