A Boiling Springs man is dead after a tree fell on him Monday.
Edward W. Johnson, 54, died at 1:50am Tuesday after being airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says Johnson was cutting trees on some land to move a moblie home to the property in the 600 block of Soap Stone Road in southern Cherokee County.
Around 1:00pm yesterday, he cut a pine tree and it fell on him, across his hips, pinning him underneath.
He laid there for 6 HOURS calling for help.
At 7pm, Kasie Tessnear and her boyfriend were leaving their home when they heard his cries coming faintly from the woods.
She grabbed a flashlight and they called out to him until he could direct them to where he was trapped
They called 911 and then tried to lift the tree off of him but could not.
Volunteer firefighters came out and cut the tree off of him.
Tessnear says she thought he was going to be okay because he was talking and moving his upper body.
So she was stunned to learn that Johnson passed away at 1:50am.
Johnson was a resident of Wedgewood Drive in Boiling Springs. Fowler says an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
