He is a peaceful little baby and you would never know about all the excitement surrounding him by looking at him. Carter Ray was born at 1:45 am at Spartanburg Regional.
His mother Niesha Simpson says, "I was hoping to have a new years baby. I was really hoping for that."
Carter's parents say with the last moments of 2008 being such a bumpy ride they are happy to leave it behind.
His father Ares says getting to the hospital was a little scary. "Really nervous like shaking and stuff breathing hard driving fast."
However, they say taking one look at their little six pound fifteen ounce bundle of joy makes the tough times all worth it.
According to Niesha, "He has his daddy's lips his ears, nose pretty much everything."
Ares says seeing himself in his son is breathtaking.
He describes his son, "Gorgeous beautiful. Little star. Little angel."
While little Carter is coming into the world with parents, grandparents and the Upstate looking on, this little boy remains calm. Something Niesha hopes is an indication of his personality.
She says, "Hopefully later on he'll be just like this I hope just quiet and not crying a lot and everything."
So on this first day of the New Year, this couple celebrates their first baby, which they say will be the beginning of many exciting and challenging experiences.
According to Ares, "No I hadn't ever changed a diaper before scared a little bit might get a little messy."
No matter what's ahead of them, one thing is for sure, Carter has secured the first place in their hearts.
Niesha says she hopes they will be able to take Carter home Friday.
