New Anderson Council Makes Sweeping Changes

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A lawsuit filed against two Anderson County council members will likely never see a court decision. That's just one of many sweeping decisions made by county council Tuesday night. Councilman Bob Waldrep says council voted to dismiss the county's lawsuit filed against him and fellow council member Cindy Wilson.

Former administrator Joey Preston filed the suit against them several months ago for claims the two members threatened county employees and instructed them to do their jobs. The suit stemmed from a confrontation in December 2007. News Channel 7 caught the confrontation on camera between Waldrep, Wilson and the finance department director. The two council members felt the former administrator did not provide backup receipts to county credit in a timely manner.

A forensic audit is underway in the county. Council voted to hire a financial investigator to review county credit card purchases and contracts.

Council also created a committee to examine the hiring process for county administrator Michael Cunningham. It does not think the old council appropriately hired Cunningham back in November 2008.

Council also voted to disagree with former county administrator Joey Preston's severance agreement. The county paid Preston more than one point three million dollars last year to get out of his contract.
