A murder trial is postponed Wednesday morning after the public defender in the case called in sick.

The trial of Elder Dennis Potlow will continue Thursday.

Potlow is accused by prosecutors of killing two women and and unborn baby during a car chase last year.

Elder Dennis Potlow cried in court Tuesday, when witnesses talked about him chasing the car his pregnant girlfriend was in that later crashed. Witnesses say they saw two cars speeding down Church Street in Greenville last year, then the vehicle Potlow was driving got very close to the other car, causing the wreck. "That's when the gray car lost control again and flew up, smacked the pole, the power popped and flipped around. And I saw people flying. And I started screaming" a witness testified Tuesday.

Potlow's mother has taken the stand twice so far. Elizabeth Burdine says she doesn't remember talking to police on the scene or at the hospital telling them her son was chasing her, shooting at her car, and ramming them.

Two officers testified that's what she told them but Burdine disagrees. She testified, "Honest to God, I promise, I do not remember signing that statement.(solicitor) Do you recognize that signature on that statement? I do, but I was in trauma that night and I don't remember signing the paper. That's the God's honest truth".

The state was expected to rest their case today, but the postponment means that won't happen until Thursday.

Potlow's defense is expected to begin Wednesday, once prosecutors rest their case. They've said he didn't mean to hurt anyone, and did not shoot at or ram his mother's car before it crashed.
