A Greer man says he was kidnapped outside of work and driven across the county for ransom, Greer Police told us Wednesday.

According to Greer Police the man says he was grabbed outside of El Mariachi Restaurant on Wade Hampton Boulevard and put into his Cadillac Escalade.

The victim, stated a Greer Police report, says the attackers called his family and demanded a $300 ransom or the title to the Escalade, and set up a meeting at the Wal-Mart on Wade Hampton Boulevard.

Sheriff's deputies spotted the Escalade near the Wal-Mart and it took off, leading them on a high-speed chase with speeds up to 85 mph.

Greer Police say the victim jumped or was thrown out of the SUV during the chase. The victim was not injured.

The SUV was found abandoned. Police are working to figure out who committed the crime. If you have any information you are asked to call Greer Police at 848-2159.
