COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn says he's trying to find a way to get South Carolina federal stimulus money even if the governor is against such help.

Clyburn said Thursday he's working with state legislators to figure out ways to make sure stimulus money reaches the state and is spent here.

Gov. Mark Sanford has vocally opposed federal bailouts, though his spokesman says the governor hasn't ruled out using stimulus money.

Clyburn said Sanford's opposition to bailouts shouldn't stand in the way of benefits needed in a state with the nation's third-highest jobless rate and with roads, bridges and schools that need be built or fixed.
