CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina high school band has received pledges from a football player and a corporation that will enable it to make the trip to play in the Obama inauguration parade.
The Charlotte Observer reports the Harding University High School marching band has raised $75,000 for the trip to Washington. Band members and parents have worked for the past month to raise $50,000.
The Charlotte band received pledges yesterday of $25,000 from Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith and $13,000 from AT&T. Money will be used for rooms, transportation and equipment, including the repair of some uniforms that are more than 10 years old.
