Protect Yourself From Frostbite

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Don’t let the calm conditions fool you. Storm Team 7 says the coldest temperatures of the season are expected tonight throughout the Carolinas and that means you could be in danger of hypothermia or frostbite if you are exposed to the cold.

As we've told you before, hypothermia is the condition when your entire body temperature is lowered. But frostbite is when the skin actually freezes and that can put your extremities, such as your fingers, ears and toes at risk. The best thing to do is dress in layers and drink warm liquids. Also, try to limit the time you are outside.

When we have temperatures this low, the slightest gust of wind can make it feel even colder with the wind chill. That's why it is also important to remember the three Ps: Pets, plants and pipes.

Bring those pets inside and leave the water running at a trickle to protect the pipes in your house.

Another thing to remember: Try eating something healthy. The digestion will warm your body internally.
