The South Carolina Attorney General tells us Friday that 37 subpoenas were issued by the office on price gouging after this year’s hurricanes.
Mark Plowden, communications director with the AG’s office, confirmed they are close to completing an investigation on gas price gouging in Sept. 2008 after a hurricane cut off much of the state’s fuel supply.
The subpoenas were issued to oil companies, wholesalers and station owners Plowden says.
Some stations in S.C. were charging more than $5 per gallon after the storm.
Prices have fallen since then in South Carolina, falling below $1.50 per gallon last month.
