The decision whether to close Greenville Shriners Hospital will be announced on July 9.
A vote on the future of the hospital will be made at some point during the Shriners International Convention in San Antonio which starts on July 5.
The vote won't be announced until the convention concludes at noon on July 9 according to Melissa Bayles, Public Relations Specialist for Greenville Shriners Hospital. She adds once the vote is taken, it can be challenged each day afterwards.
Bayles says there are three options for the decision:
a) To close the Greenville Shriners Hospital, which is located on West Farris Road.
b) To not close the Greenville Shriners Hospital.
c) To allow all 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children, including the Greenville hospital, to accept third party pay.
Greenville Shriners Hospital has provided has provided pediatric orthopedic care for children 18 and under from six states at no charge to them or their families.
This care - started in 1927 - is provided through an endowment trust that is supplied from donors, wills, estates and gifts to our organization.
The Greenville facility is one of six hospitals that has been threatened with the possibility of closing since April because of financial trouble.
There have been several rallies and benefits to help raise funds to keep the hospital in the Upstate open. Greenville Shriners Hospital doesn't have a complete figure as to how much money has been raised.
