Everywhere you turn in stores and online retailers are slashing prices. The latest numbers show apparel merchants are suffering the most, down more than one billion dollars from a year ago. However, that means those same merchants are looking to move their merchandise especially stores that don't normally discount.
If you are in the market for some furniture www.smartmoney.com says now's the time to buy. The website says furniture sales are directly linked to new home sales which are in the dumps. You can get deals up to seventy percent off. Shopper Linda Powell says she got an unbelievable bargain.
She says, "Half price I got on some recliners we needed for a beach house so that was a good deal. I was happy to see those."
Retailers like Pier 1 Imports are offering more than one thousand items at up to 50% off. A wood chair normally $149 is now going for just $59. Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel are slashing prices as well. While the deals are great online, Powell says shopping in stores you might find better bargains. She claims, "People want to move the merchandise that they have and I think merchants are willing to deal if people go in and ask them and I think they will get better deals than even in the papers and the flyers." Other places you can find recession deals are car dealerships. It is no secret the industry is hurting and according to smartmoney.com some incentives include 0% financing for 6 months to removing the risk if you lose your job. They say electronics are another place to score big. That flat screen you've always wanted may just be within reach as stores start marking items down fifteen to fifty percent off.
The bottom line is if you are one of the lucky ones with some extra money to spend there are some really great deals out there.
Smartmoney.com also says you will find some great deals at restaurants right now. Full service places looking to lure customers away from fast food. For example Applebees has a 2 for $20 deal right now and places like Outback Steakhouse are offering similar sales.
