The Greenville City Council voted Monday evening to begin the process of burying power lines across the city. The city and Duke Power can began the planning of burying power lines shortly after a 2005 ice storm cut power to some in the city for weeks, with trees taking down power lines across the city.
The city has identified three major corridors: Augusta Road, Pleasantburg Road and Haywood Road. One corridor will be chosen to start, and work will begin shortly after the first of the year. It will take about a year to complete the process. When the three corridors are completed, the city will then choose other areas to bury lines.
