Mark Stamey, who was one of two people who were with accused serial killer Patrick Burris at the time of his death, has been arrested in North Carolina.

Belmont Police Chief David James confirms Stamey is charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, selling cocaine, conspiring to sell cocaine, delivering cocaine and conspiring to deliver cocaine.

James says Stamey sold one gram of cocaine to an undercover detective on June 17 and was arrested Wednesday.

He remains behind bars on a $15,000 secured bond.

Stamey is scheduled to make a court appearance Thursday afternoon on the charges.

Chief James says they have no information that Stamey was involved with Burris in the Belmont area.

Stameys spent time with Patrick Burris before his death

Mark and Sharon Stamey told WCNC-TV in Charlotte they "partied" with Burris for several days after the murders in Cherokee County.

The couple said he was very secretive and they didn't know a lot about him. The Starney's said the partying binge lasted until the morning when Burris was killed.

Gaston County Police say they shot and killed Burris after he opened fire on officers who were investigating a burglary call.

The couple also said it never occurred to them that their new friend was the man wanted in Gaffney. They say Burris seemed especially interested in the coverage of the case on television.

Mark and Sharon Starney were questioned for hours by police and then released.
