Staff Sergeant Adam Palmer was critically injured by a roadside bomb early Tuesday morning in Iraq.
Gail Palmer says her son has a fractured leg, shattered arm, and shrapnel embedded in his body. "I just fell apart. You think about so many things. I thought about his wife. I thought about his baby," Palmer said.
Palmer is former football player at Landrum High School. He enlisted after graduating high school. Last year, he married the love of his life. Three months ago, a new love came into his life, his daughter. "He said I'm not going to even to be able to hold my baby. I told him we put her on his chest and we'd hold her there if we had to," Palmer said.
He was on his third tour in Iraq when he was injured.
The Staff Sergeant is being treated at a hospital in Germany. His mother says the Army will fly him to Walter Reed Medical Center either Sunday or Monday.
Since our story aired tonight, people from across the viewing area have called, wanting to help the family.
