The Anderson County Sheriff's Office and Anderson City Police Department are leasing a new narcotics and gang task force headquarters, where officers from each department will work, sharing information to get gang members off the street.
"We're going to rent it, move our narcotics division, city narcotics division and the gang task force and put them all in one building," said Sheriff John Skipper, who declined to say exactly where the building will be. "Obviously the benefit- there is the sharing of information and the working day to day."
This is the latest step in the agencies' long term plan to work together. Back in February they announced a joint Gang Task Force, working with other municipal agencies in the area. This came after what the police chief called a dramatic rise in gang activity, with more than 10 gangs identified in Anderson.
"We're not getting too hung up on who's going to make an arrest. It doesn't matter to us. We want these people off the streets and I tell you what, you can do so much more with partnerships than you can individually," said Anderson Police Chief Martin Brown.
