A Gaffney woman is under arrest Wednesday and charged with child abuse for beating a 13-year old girl with a belt.
Christy Marie Crowe, 34, is being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center on a child abuse charge. Bond is pending according to the jail website.
The incident happened at a home on Limestone Street in Gaffney at 10:30pm on Tuesday.
The Gaffney Police incident report says the victim claimed she was scratched on her arms, punched in the shoulder and was hit with a belt on her legs, arms and head.
The officer says the victim had at least two marks on the back of her left thigh that were "shaped like a belt buckle" and another one on her upper left arm.
There were also scratch marks and dried blood on her head and arms.
Crowe said that she accidentally hit the victim in the head with a belt according to the Gaffney Police.
A Department of Social Services counselor placed the victim and her brother in the care of another relative. The victim says Crowe tried to hit her eight year old brother with the belt, but missed.
