**Wednesday Morning Update**
South Carolina Highway Patrol officer Scot Edgeworth says they will not be releasing the name of the 17-year old suspect in this case who has been charged with DUI. Edgeworth says it is SCHP policy not to release a name when the suspect is 17 years old or younger.
Eight people were injured as a result of a late Tuesday afternoon accident in Laurens County and South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say that alcohol was to blame.
The accident happened around 4:20 Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 25 and Harmony Road in southern Laurens County. According to Kelly Hughes with the Highway Patrol, an unidentified 17-year old female was driving a gold 2002 Mazda four-door sedan on Harmony Road when she ran a stiop sign and struck a black Nissan sports utilitiy vehicle, driven by 46-year old Tarnell Holston, of Anderson.
The 17-year old driver and her frontseat passenger were both airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where their condition is not known. Two other passengers in the car were also transported by ambulance to Greenville Hospital System, while a fifth person in the car did not have to be transported.
The Highway Patrol says that Holston was transported to Laurens County Hospital where he was treated and released, while three other people in the vehicle were transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Their names and conditions have yet to be released.
The Highway Patrol says that they have charged the 17-year old with driving under the influence and the accident remains under investigation.
