July 29 Update
As of July 29, Tharwat Alasadi is in the Etowah County Jail in Gadsden, AL.

A Clemson grad student is fighting to keep his newlywed from being deported.

Taiyo Davis says immigration agents arrested his wife, Tharwat Alasadi because her visa has expired. She had a visa to work as an Arabic teaching assistant at Clemson. As part of the program, Tharwat was supposed to go back to her native Syria to teach there for two years.

However, as she was teaching, she and Taiyo fell in love and got married. They tried to get an extension on her visa but have come up short to this point.

Clemson officials say they tried to help but weren't able to because they didn't sponsor the visa.

Davis is getting an attorney and hopes to prevent his wife's deportation. But he says if she is sent back to Syria, he will go with her.
