A Buncombe County, NC sheriff's deputy is under an internal investigation, after reportedly getting involved in a road rage confrontation, while off duty.
The incident happened back on July 9th, along Patton Avenue and Leicester Highway in Buncombe County.
Julie Brown says a male driver, later identified as a deputy, cut her off and she honked her horn at him. The deputy claims she flipped him the middle finger, and he didn't cut her off.
Brown says when they reached a stop light the man got out of his car and tried to open her door, threatening her.
She called 911. In those 911 tapes, she says, "I was in the left lane and now he just circled around and he's behind me now... I'm really freaked out! And I'm scared to stop and I have a stop light."
Soon after Brown called 911, she says he followed her, and he soon called 911 as well. In that call, the deputy says, "I've got a vehicle in front of me that wants to do road rage, and flipping me off, you know and I don't know what in the world's her problem." He goes on to say he's got her tag number and will track her down at home.
Brown says she's living in fear because of that.
In an interview with NewsChannel 7, she says, "He did this to me--he could do this to you're 16 year old daughter---to you're 80 year old mother..."
"I will pursue this until the Buncombe County Sheriffs Office does the right thing--and we're discussing with an attorney--action against the Asheville Police Department."
She says police did not do enough to track down the deputy, take action, and do a thorough report.
Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan says the matter is under investigation and he hopes to have it completed by next week.
