Lt. Travis C. Tilson with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports Jeffrey Arthur Webb was taken into custody near Seneca Sunday afternoon. Webb is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center. More charges are likely to be filed against him.
An afternoon manhunt leaves one in jail, one still on the loose according to Oconee County Sheriff's Deputies.
Deputies said on July 23, 2009 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Westminster, SC. A few minutes later, a report of a hit and run was received in the West Union area where the suspect description matched that of the earlier car theft.
While deputies began searching SC Hwy 11 for the vehicle, reports of shots being fired into at least three homes in the Flat Shoals community were received. As deputies arrived in the area, they observed two armed individuals flee into the woods.
SWAT teams and K-9 tracking units were activated, and for the next several hours, between twenty and thirty Sheriff’s deputies combed the area in search of the men. Early Friday morning at approximately 3:00 a.m., a traffic stop by officers assigned to the search revealed one of the suspects. Following a brief foot pursuit, Michael Shane Elliott was captured by law enforcement.
Elliott, age 27 of Park Circle in Walhalla was arrested and is charged with robbery.
His accomplice, Jeffrey Arthur Webb, age 35, of Boones Creek Rd in Salem is still on the run. He is also charged with robbery, and is wanted out of Virginia for assaulting law enforcement.
Investigators are still piecing together the details last night’s crime spree, and do expect to make further charges.
