Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says dental records were utilized to confirm the identity of 43 year old Raymond Anthony Austin. The Chesnee man died when his pick up truck was involved in an accident early Sunday morning. Fowler says Austin died from injuries sustained in the crash and has been ruled accidental.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says one person died in a single vehicle accident on Sunny Slope Drive near Cowpens early Sunday morning.
Fowler said the driver of a 1997 Ford pick-up truck was headed north on Sunny Slope drive about 3:50 a.m. and lost control of the vehicle in the 400 block. The truck traveled across the center line, ran off the left side of the road and through a pasture fence before coming to rest against a tree according to the coroner. Fowler said the truck burst into flames upon impact trapping the drive inside. “A neighbor saw the fire and called 9-1-1,” Fowler said.
The coroner has ordered an autopsy that will be conducted Monday morning in Newberry. Dental records will also have to be used in identifying the victim because the body was so badly burned,” Fowler said.
Sunday’s traffic fatality is Cherokee County’s 6th of 2009.
