Henderson County Sheriffs patrol deputies responded to a report of a vehicle parked in the roadway of U.S. 176 South at the Green River Bridge with the motor running at about 9:45 Tuesday morning.
The caller said that the vehicle was running and appeared unoccupied.
As officers were enroute to investigate, another call reported that a person appeared to have jumped or fallen from the overpass.
Emergency services and investigators were dispatched to the scene as well.
Preliminary investigations show that a woman has died as a result of a fall from the bridge.
Investigators confirm that there was at least one eyewitness to the incident. No one else was with the victim at the time of this occurrence.
The victim has been identified and investigators are trying to contact next of kin at this time. The victim is not a resident of North Carolina.
