Clinton Woman Drowns In Hotel Pool

A woman has drowned in a pool at a Laurens County motel.

A woman drowned in a pool at a Laurens County motel Tuesday afternoon. Laurens County coroner Nick Nichols say Mary Virginia Spigler of Clinton drowned. Nichols says that she had heart problems and the incident is being ruled as an accidental drowning.

The incident happened at the Howard Johnson Inn on Highway 56 North in Laurens County. Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain tells News Channel 7 that the woman was not a registered guest at the motel and had been in the pool area without the staff's knowledge.

Chastain says that the woman was found floating in the pool bu guests and staff and guests pulled her from the pool and began performing CPR. The woman was transported to Laurens County Hospital.

Chastain says the unidentified woman's family has been notified of the incident.
