EAST DORSET, Vt. (AP) - A 20-year-old collegian who suffered a life-threatening head injury at a Vermont horse show is showing signs of improvement in an Albany, N.Y., hospital.
Victoria Middleton, of Marietta, Ga., was hurt Friday at the Vermont Summer Festival horse show in East Dorset when her horse got spooked and Middleton was knocked to the ground.
Ruth Lacey, marketing director for the festival, said it wasn't a riding accident, the Bennington Banner reported.
Middleton, a nationally-ranked equestrian at the University of South Carolina, was unconscious for nearly three days after the mishap. But her condition was upgraded from critical to serious Thursday, according to Sabine Needham, spokeswoman for Albany Medical Center.
