Three people were arrested and three young children have been removed from a home after a welfare check in Prosperity.

Newberry County Sheriff's Office deputies charged Courtney M. Chavis, 21, Fred Sexton III, 29, and Jordon Ethan Manning, 19, with with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Deputies went to check on a child - who has a medical condition - at a home on Bachman Chapel Road around 11:25pm on May 30.

Authorities say they heard someone running inside the residence and were able to see a marijuana plant growing at the residence. The officers also observed a partially smoked marijuana cigarette on the porch of the residence.

The deputies also found three small children inside the home. All of the children - age three and younger - were asleep at the time of the incident.

Deputies notified the Department of Social Services and the three children were released into their custody.

The K-9 unit was able to locate just over one ounce of marijuana packed in small plastic baggies after the arrests.
