The price of gas continues to rise in South Carolina, but the Palmetto state has the lowest cost at the pump according to AAA Carolinas.
The average price for self-serve, regular unleaded fuel in the state is $2.33 a gallon on June 2. That is three cents lower than the average price in Tennessee and four cents below Utah, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey and Alabama.
The price in the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson market is $2.31, but that figure is 44 cents higher compared to one month ago.
North Carolina drivers are paying an average of $2.45, which is the 19th lowest mark according to AAA.
South Carolina's gas tax is a factor in that overall figure. The Palmetto state gas tax of 16.8 cents per gallon is the fifth lowest in the nation. North Carolina has a 30 cent state tax on each gallon of fuel.
All drivers must pay 18.4 cents in federal taxes per gallon.
