The man who escaped from police custody in March appeared in court Wednesday to face a felony charge of escaping police custody.
Stephen David Taylor’s case was referred to the next sitting of the grand jury in Polk County Superior Court, according to the district attorney’s office.
Taylor, 44, was given a 12 ½ year sentence last week on charges of being a habitual felon.
On March 11, Taylor escaped from the back door of the Polk County Courthouse during a sentencing hearing and ran into the woods.
Taylor was being sentenced as a habitual felon the day of his escape.
He managed to elude police for over a week and was found by police at a friend’s house on March 20.
An inmate who officers say escaped from a Polk County, North Carolina courtroom is set to face a judge again Wednesday morning.
Authorities said David Taylor was on the run for nine days before they found him having a beer with a friend on March 20th. He was sentenced to 12 years, 6 months in prison in May after he was convicted of being a habitual felon. Taylor will face a judge on the felony escape charge Wednesday along with two other alleged crimes.
