A Brazilian air force spokesman says more debris from the crashed Air France jet has been spotted.
The new debris includes what appears to be a seven-meter (23-foot) long chunk of the plane. No bodies were seen in the latest wreckage spotted about 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of where the main debris field
lies.
Also spotted were about 10 other metal objects and an oil slick stretching about 20 kilometers in the area.
DUBLIN (AP) - From Rio to Paris and far beyond, people are mourning the loss of the 228 people on board Air France Flight 447. The crash over the Atlantic is presumed to have killed all on board.
They included three young Irish doctors -- including one who'd been a Riverdance performer before turning to medicine. A tribute from her family reads, in part, "We will miss your dancing feet." She was traveling with two friends from Ireland's Trinity College. The father of one of them, John Butler, initially thought his daughter Aisling was booked on a different flight. When he opened up her deleted e-mail folder to check her itinerary, he says, "a nightmare opened up as well."
Also on board was a 28-year-old woman from France who had recovered from a stroke, and was returning home after a visit with her boyfriend in Brazil. Her bother says she'd just been "starting to take up her activities and a normal life again" -- when "fate caught up with her."
The two Americans on the plane -- geologist Michael Harris and his wife Anne -- are remembered by a family member as "patient, kind, fun-loving individuals." Another victim with a Greenville tie, Luiz Roberto Anastacio, was president of Michelin Latin America and based in Rio. He was a personnel director for Michelin North America based here in Greenville about 5 years ago.
Michael Harris was a Greenville native, and one of the two Americans on board an Air France jet that disappeared over the Atlantic Sunday evening.
Michael Harris, 60, was a geologist for Devon Energy, and was living in Rio de Janeiro with his wife, Anne Harris, 54. Harris atttended Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, and Clemson University.
The couple were on their way to Paris for a training session for Michael, and a holiday for the couple. Anne Harris was originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, according to her sister Mary Miley, who spoke with CNN.
Miley said she was contacted by the U.S. Consulate in Brazil and was told the couple's names appeared on the aircraft's manifest. Tonight, Mellissa Keeney talked to family mambers about Harris, and his life.
