CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson University President Jim Barker rated the university a notch below a national magazine's top ranking and judged all others as only good or marginal.
The Greenville News reported Tuesday it obtained a copy of the survey Barker filled out for U.S. New & World Report.
A Clemson researcher told a national conference last week Clemson officials who fill out the survey rate programs other than Clemson below average to make the school look better.
Clemson was the only university Barker rated as strong.
Out of 260 public and private universities, Barker gave Clemson a rating of strong, while rating 43 percent good or adequate, and 48 percent as marginal.
